The duo identified as Suhaib Reyaz and Anayat Ullah Iqbal, both residents of Saidapora Payeen, confessed to their involvement in the terror attack.
Two non-local labourers from Uttar Pradesh were killed in Harmen area of South Kashmir's Shopian district in the grenade attack.
Deceased has been identified as Puran Krishan Bhat, a Kashmiri Pandit. The injured was shifted to the hospital where he was declared dead.
Jamaat-e-Islami was declared an unlawful association in 2019, but it continued to raise funds in various forms on the pretext of charitable purposes.
This is the second gunfight in Shopian in less than 24 hours.
Troops of the Army, CRPF and J&K police eliminated the five terrorists (3 in Reban Bandpawa area of Shopian and 2 in Semthan village of Bijbehara in Anantnag district) in the two encounters.
“We pledge to protect our country from enemies for which we leave behind our homes, family and dear ones when duty calls. If ever I get martyred while fighting for my country, my family should feel proud,” Singh told The Statesman.
An encounter began between the security forces and terrorists in the Chakura area of south Kashmir's Shopian district after a joint team of police, Army’s 34 RR and CRPF launched a cordon-and-search-operation in Chakoora, officials said.
The killing of these terrorists was followed by clashes between the youth of the locality and security forces as the former indulged in stone-pelting.
