Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday attended the state funeral of assassinated former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at Nippon Budokan in Tokyo.
Some 20,000 police officers have been reportedly being deployed for the security at the event being held at the Nippon Budokan arena in central Tokyo which is estimated to cost taxpayers $1.65 billion yen ($11 million).
Japan has imposed tight security measures in the capital city Tokyo as it prepares to host foreign dignitaries for the state funeral of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, which will be attended by several foreign dignitaries.
The ceremony will take place at the Nippon Budokan arena in the Kitanomaru National Garden in Tokyo.
Suga's rise in the political hierarchy to the top spot is comparable to that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Like Modi who rose in politics to be the prime minister of the country from being a tea seller, Suga rose to become the Prime Minister from being a strawberry farmer's son in Akita, northern Japan
The political transition comes after Abe Shinzo's surprise announcement last month, that he would step down to deal with health issues. Suga won a commanding victory in Monday's vote for the leader of the main ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) , reports NHK.

At a meeting convened last week, outgoing Prime Minister Shinzo Abe announced that the government aims to secure by the first half of 2021 enough Covid-19 vaccinations for all of the country's citizens, as part of its new measures and protocols to combat the virus.
Shinzo Abe has cited ill-health for his resignation from the post which he held for a significant period.
