Market ends lower, dragged down by auto stocks

On the losing side were Indusind Bank (2.30%), Trent (1.94%), Ultratech Cement (1.58%), Bharat Electronics (1.57%), and Mahindra & Mahindra (1.48%).
At close, the Sensex gained 0.3 per cent (226.85 points) to 76,759.81, while the Nifty rose 0.3 per cent (86.4 points) to 23,249.5.
During the trading session, the Nifty reached a day high of 24,705.0 and a low of 24,580.05 while Sensex traded within a range of 81,783.28 and 81,411.55.
At close, the Sensex was up 375.61 points or 0.46% at 81,559.54, and the Nifty was up 84.20 points or 0.34% at 24,936.40.
Buying was seen in select heavyweight stocks helping the market move upwards.
The overall market capitalisation of the firms listed on the BSE rose to nearly ₹455.1 lakh crore from nearly ₹452.4 lakh crore in the previous session.
The index created a fresh all-time high of 77,851.63, as investors piled onto banking stocks.
The index missed its all-time high level of 77,079.04 by just 29 points which it hit on June 10.
Both the indices hit their fresh record highs, jumping almost 4%, and ended at their fresh closing highs with gains of over 3% each.
