India and Pakistan in October 2019 signed an agreement to operationalise the Kartarpur Corridor to allow Indian pilgrims a visa-free visit to the holy gurdwara, believed to have been built on the site where Guru Nanak died in the 16th century, and located some 4 km inside Pakistan.

According to Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, the decision to deny President Kovind permission to use the country's airspace was approved by Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The meeting will provide Pakistan with an opportunity to share its perspective with both China and Afghanistan, according to informed sources.
His comments come days after Pakistan's Science and Technology Minister Fawad Khan said that the country is considering closing its airspace for traffic from India.
