Benchmark indices on Thursday continued their winning streak with Nifty crossing 24,200, intraday. The performance was on the back of buying across the sectors led by auto stocks after December sales number.
Benchmark indices closed with little change on Thursday in yet another volatile session, with the Nifty at 23,750 led by auto, pharma, energy stocks. At close, the Sensex was down 0.39 points at 78,472.48, and the Nifty was up 22.55 points or at 23,750.20.
The Nifty 50 closed 0.11% lower, settling at 23,727, while the Sensex ended with a minor 0.09% drop at 78,472.
At close, the Sensex was up 498.58 points or 0.64% at 78,540.17, and the Nifty was up 165.95 points or 0.70% at 23,753.45.
At close, Sensex ended near the 78,000 mark, shedding 1.5% from the previous session, while the Nifty fell below 23,600, also down 1.5%.
Indian stock markets will remain closed next on August 15 for Independence Day celebrations.
As benchmark indices scaled new highs in trade on Wednesday, sheer buoyancy of stock prices even in the broader markets made several seasoned investors waiting on the sidelines for a meaningful correction mere spectators, said S. Ranganathan, Head of Research at LKP Securities.
