Two naxals, including a woman, were killed following an encounter with security forces in Upperghat area of Bermo subdivision, Bokaro district of Jharkhand on Wednesday. Two policemen were also injured in the incident.
Security forces recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition during search and area domination operations in the Lunkhongjang Ridges, under New Keithelmanbi Police Station in Manipur's Kangpokpi District. It was conducted to bolster security in vulnerable hill and valley regions.
The security forces gunned down 12 Maoist insurgents in an intense day-long encounter near the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border on Thursday. In a series of intelligence-based joint operations, security forces in Manipur recovered 19 weapons, ammunition, and other war-like stores from areas affected by ethnic strife. The operations, carried out by the Assam Rifles in coordination with the Manipur Police, targeted several districts, including Thoubal, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, and Kakching.
Post the revocation of Article 370, militants have been resorting to civilian killings and threats to instil fear among the people so that the return of normalcy is prevented in the valley.
Jammu and Kashmir was put under virtual curfew on 5 August when the Modi government scrapped Article 370 and split the state into two union territories.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir is under a lockdown with Section 144 imposed across Srinagar and other sensitive areas of the Valley.
In an unprecedented move, Union Home Minister Amit Shah proposed in the Rajya Sabha to revoke Article 370, that grants special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
The dramatic security clampdown had already stoked fears of the Centre scrapping Article 35A, which gives exclusive rights to the state’s residents in government jobs and land, or Article 370 which gives autonomous status to the state.
