The DDMA has also ordered that students, teachers, and non-teaching staff members of schools living in containment zones will not be allowed to go to their schools.
School bells started ringing at the appointed morning hour urging students to hurry for classes, while in many schools, teachers and non-teaching staff welcomed the pupils with roses, chocolates, or sweetmeats to mark the special day.
This decision was taken on Wednesday at a meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) held under the chairmanship of Lt-Governor Anil Baijal.
Earlier, with daily Covid-19 cases in the state coming down and after giving permission to colleges, polytechnics, and Class 12 students, the state government had allowed offline education for Classes 9 to 11 from July 26.
Students will have to follow social distancing norms and COVID protocols. Lunch will be permitted in open space. There will be no assembly meet in schools and sports activities will also be banned.
A guideline of the schedules would also be prepared with the possibility of shift classes being implemented in the state. Education department officials told IANS that a schedule for the opening of schools would be put in place this week itself. This would ensure that the schools are adhering to the standard safety norms and Covid-19 standard protocols.
