Posting the matter for Wednesday after a brief hearing on Tuesday, a bench of Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah asked Delhi police to come prepared with its submissions on Hussain’s plea for interim bail for his election campaign.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed Jharkhand government's plea challenging the state High Court order that quashed an FIR against Bharatiya Janata Party ‘s Lok Sabha members Nishikant Dubey and Manoj Tiwari for allegedly forcing Deogarh’s Air Traffic Control (ATC) to approve take-off of their chartered flight in August 2022.
The Supreme Court, on Tuesday, dismissed the Directorate of Enforcement’s (ED) plea challenging the bail granted to former Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and current NCP MLA Chhagan Bhujbal in an alleged money laundering case.
Adjourning the hearing for Tuesday due to the paucity of time, a bench of Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah, however, remarked: “These days elections are contested from jail … It’s easy to win an election sitting in jail … all such persons should be barred from contesting.”
A bench of Justice Abhay S Oka and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan also directed the Registrar General of the Delhi High Court to ensure proper video conferencing facilities at Tihar jail also where Yasin Malik is lodged and is undergoing life imprisonment.
The DDA, in its meeting chaired by Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena, who is also Chairman, DDA, took these decisions.
The Chief Secretary, and the Director General of Police of Punjab appeared in the hearing through video-conferencing.
Issuing notice to Punjab government on the contempt plea, a vacation bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia directed the Chief Secretary of the State and the Director General of Police to be present online during the hearing of the matter on Saturday (December 28) at 11 am.
