SC likely to hear on Feb 19 pleas challenging law to appoint CEC, ECs

The Supreme Court is likely to hear on Wednesday a batch of petitions challenging the validity of the Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service and Term of Office) Act 2023, that excludes the Chief Justice of India from a panel for the selection of the Chief Election (CEC) Commissioner and the Election Commissioners (ECs).

SC hearing on challenge to Places of Worship Act goes to April

The Supreme Court, on Monday, adjourned for April the hearing on a batch of cross -petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the Places of Worship Act, 1991 and others defending and seeking proper and effective enforcement of the 1991 law that prohibits the filing of a lawsuit to reclaim a place of worship or seek a change in its character from what prevailed on August 15, 1947.
