SC Collegium recommends new Chief Justices for 5 High Courts

"The chief minister and the Governor of the State of Himachal Pradesh have concurred with the recommendation," it added.
The top court has a sanctioned strength of 34 judges, but at present there are 31 judges – three judges short of its sanctioned strength.
The Supreme Court Collegium, which is headed by Chief Justice N.V. Ramana, had recommended nine names, including eight high court judges, three women judges, and a senior advocate for the elevation to the top court.
Earlier, It had approved the proposals to elevate certain judicial officers and advocates as judges of the High Courts of Allahabad, Kerala, and Gujarat.
Justices Krishna Murari, SR Bhat, V Ramasubramanian and Hrishikesh Roy were administered the oath of office by the Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi.
This move comes after the Supreme Court Collegium refused to accede to Justice Tahilramani's request to reconsider its recommendation to her transfer her as Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court.
On May 10, the Supreme Court collegium headed by CJI Ranjan Gogoi had recommended Justice Kureshi as the most suitable candidate to be appointed as the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
The Centre had disagreed with the Supreme Court Collegium's recommendation to confirm the elevation of two judges as it is learnt that the principle of seniority was not applied.
Similarly Justice Ajay Rastogi belongs to Rajasthan and hails from Rajasthan High Court which, too, is unrepresented in the Supreme Court.
