Satkosia, which is home to two tigers despite its rich tiger-friendly prey base and ecosystem, has hogged the spotlight for carrying out the country's first tiger translocation programme.
Officials of the National Tiger Conservation Authority had come to Satkosia recently to study the activities of Sundari.
This has happened twice before in Sunderbans and in Panna, according to reports
The male Royal Bengal Tiger had wounds on its neck; brought to Satkosia reserve in a first-of-its-kind inter-state wild-to-wild translocation five months ago, the big cat had been immobile for some time with tracking devices showing it at one particular spot
The mob went berserk and beat up a forest tracking team who were, in fact, monitoring the movement of Sundari and had reportedly been to Tainsi to warn a group of villagers not to venture near a water body.
Focus to be now on the release of the tigress kept in a special enclosure after being brought to Satkosia from Bandhavgarh in MP on 28 June
A majestic wild Royal Bengal tiger from the Kanha Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh was transported to Satkosia Tiger Reserve in Odisha’s Angul district. It has been temporarily kept in a two-and-a-half-acre enclosure for observation.
The tiger relocation was mooted and worked out by Forest Minister Bijayshree Routray since last year and it will be the first such effort in the country.
The first tiger is scheduled to reach the state next month, said Forest and Environment Minister Bijayshree Routray.
