Filing a fresh appeal in the Supreme Court on Saturday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sought to interrogate ex-Kolkata Police top cop, Rajiv Kumar.
Kumar was summoned to face the interrogation on his alleged involvement in Rose Valley scam, and his alleged nexus with Subhra Kundu, the wife of Rose Valley chairman Gautam Kundu.
The reason for recent slump in progress of investigation into these two scams, was attributed to dearth of manpower and recent rejig in the ranks of officers concerned, who the source claimed had either been shifted out or removed.
The SIT was formed by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to probe the Saradha chit fund scam before the CBI began an investigation at the orders of the Supreme Court in 2014.
While both she and Sudipto Sen are in custody, no prayer has been made to examine the phone so that the calls received and made can be checked to follow the money trail in the scam case, it was pointed out.
Custodial interrogation means that the investigating agency is assuming certain functions of a magistrate before whom Kumar would have to appear, Mukherjee said.
The agency consults legal expert as it contemplates move to arrest the former Kolkata Police chief on charges of “tampering with evidence and non-cooperation”
