The Akademi is inviting books from applicants aged below 35 on January 1, 2020. The last date to apply is August 30, 2019.
Twenty-two winners of the Bal Sahitya Puraskar and 23 recipients of the Yuva Puraskar have been announced as the winner by the Executive Board of the Akademi, under the chairmanship of its President, Chandrashekhar Kambar.
Setting her life as an example, Mahadevi Varma paved a path for hundreds of women coming after her. In 1979, she was made a fellow at Sahitya Akademi, becoming the first woman to be given this distinction. Her collection of poems, Yama received Gyanpeeth award in 1982. She was granted Padma Vibhushan in 1988.
It has originally been written by Tamil writer-poet Vairmuthu Ramasamy, who has been awarded the Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri and Sahitya Akademi Award. It was translated in Hindi by H. Balasubramaniam.
