With special emphasis on the security of women passengers, Eastern Railway’s Railway Protection Force (RPF) has intensified routine patrols and CCTV surveillance at various stations.
A railway commuter had a narrow escape at the Burdwan Junction railway station early this morning.

In a successful operation under Operation Satark, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Jasidih post apprehended an individual engaged in the illegal transportation of foreign liquor at Jasidih railway station, under Asansol division of Eastern Railway.
This marks a substantial rise compared to the summer of 2023, where a total of 6,369 trips were offered.
Coke Oven police station, acting on a specific tip-off, nabbed two drug peddlers and seized 500 grams of brown sugar from their possession near a bus stand in Durgapur late last night.
A collaborative effort of the RPF and the GRP uncovered suspicious activity during a routine inspection at the station.
"Specially trained to ensure safety and provide assistance to female passengers in distress, they create a secure environment for travelers," the Ministry of Railways said on Friday.
The RPF takes the security of women passengers seriously under the "Meri Saheli" initiative. During the month of February, 228 "Meri Saheli" teams attended 10,659 trains and provided security assurance to 2.73 lakh women passengers.
