In a significant development, ruling National Conference (NC) leader and MP Ruhullah Mehdi on Friday issued a stern warning against any attempts to misinterpret the resolution seeking restoration of J&K’s special status passed by the Assembly in its recent session.
The 5-day fiery session of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly has ended in Srinagar, but its deliberations are echoing in the crucial poll bound Maharashtra and Jharkhand where the top BJP leadership is utilizing the Article 370 restoration resolution as an election issue to pin down its rival INDIA alliance.
PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, on Wednesday, described the resolution on the restoration of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir moved by the National Conference (NC) in the legislative assembly as “half-hearted” and “lacking conviction”.
The resolution, passed by voice vote, urged the Centre to engage in dialogue with elected representatives to restore the region's special status.

In response to media queries regarding the resolution, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said Pakistan has no locus standi to pronounce on or interfere in matters that were internal to India, including the Indian territories under Pakistan’s illegal and forcible occupation.
