Rescue operation continued on Sunday in Transport Nagar building collapse incident in which eight people were killed and 28 others were injured. The mishap took place on Saturday.
The Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Chennai received a distress email from the MV ITT Puma on 24 August.
The Mumbai-registered general cargo vessel was en route from Kolkata to Port Blair when it reportedly sank about 90 nautical miles south of Sagar Island (West Bengal).
Additional personnel, stores, resources and essential supplies were mobilised from INS Zamorin to augment the relief efforts and support the local community impacted by the disaster.
Speaking at a press conference after an all-party and cabinet meeting held in Kalpetta on Thursday, Pinarayi Vijayan said after the completion of the Bailey bridge by the Army in Mundakkai, the rescue operation would be carried out intensively by bringing machines to the landslide-hit site.
Two Air Force helicopters with six officials had joined the ongoing search and rescue operations in the morning.
Police, Army, and locals recovered four bodies from the site and rescued five passengers of the ill-fated cab who were rushed to a nearby hospital where they also succumbed to their injuries.
The police said the bodies recovered from the debris have been shifted to District Hospital Ramban and their identification is underway. They had registered an FIR against the construction company.
Three seriously injured persons have so far been rescued from the debris. Teams of Army, NDRF, SDRF, Police, and locals were engaged in the rescue operations.
The building collapse was reported at 11:50 a.m. opposite Robin cinema in Ghanta Ghar Sabzi Mandi near Malka Ganj in Delhi on Monday.
