State Fire Services Minister Sujit Bose said that when the recruitments were made, he was not in charge of the fire services department.
Addressing a press, Additional Secretary, Department of Military Affairs, Lt Gen Anil Puri said, "We will take an undertaking and the candidates will have to give a certificate that they were not involved in any arson or sabotage.
Justifying the scheme, Lt Gen Anil Puri said "We want to bring youthfulness and experience with this reform. Today, a large number of jawans are in their 30s and officers are getting command much later than in the past."
