Patra will hold the office for a period of three years and is likely to work on the monetary policy portfolio, which was with Acharya.
Vishwanathan is one of the three Deputy Governors, besides B.P. Kanungo and M.K. Jain, at the central bank.
Acharya submitted a letter to the RBI informing that due to 'unavoidable personal circumstances' he is unable to continue his term beyond July 23, 2019.
