The eight seats on which the polling would be held on April 11 are Meerut-Hapur, Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar, Baghpat, Bijnor, Muzaffarnagar, Kairana and Saharanpur.
“We are leaving 7 seats vacant for SP, BSP and RLD. These include Mainpuri, Kannauj, Firozabad and whatever seats Mayawati ji and RLD's Jayant ji and Ajit Singh contest from. We will also give two seats to Apna Dal - Gonda and Pilibhit, said Babbar while briefing the media.
Party leaders feel that RLD, in an alliance with SP and BSP, can win elections on many important seats of western UP with their Jats-Muslims formula.
While no formal declaration about the pact has come forth from either the SP or the BSP, it is understood that Mayawati may make an announcement to this effect on January 10.
The RLD will try to repeat the strategy that helped it beat the BJP in the Kairana Lok Sabha by-poll.
Before filing of the nomination the RLD and SP displayed a power show as many senior leaders turned up including RLD vice president Jayant Chaudhary.
