A youth from Murshidabad, who arrived at Jamalpur in East Burdwan in search of job was arrested on rape charges yesterday.
The police, however, denied receiving a complaint about the rape and murder of the 35-year-old woman.
A senior office bearer of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Madhya Pradesh has been booked on rape charges by the police on the complaint of a woman, following which, the BJP leader has resigned from his post.
According to police, the arrested woman identified as Geeta, a resident of Ludhiana, Punjab, lured a 15-year-old girl while her parents went to their native place and held her captive in Surat, Gujarat, for four months.
According to the complaint, the victim had come to her rented house for a vacation in the Chirag Delhi area from June- August 2021 where her mother and step-father were residing.
The verdict came in appeals filed by the three convicts, who -- along with one Siraj Rehman Khan and an unidentified minor -- were tried for the August 22, 2013 gang-rape which shook the nation.
The victim, a M.Tech degree holder, alleged that Shirish cheated her with the false promise of marrying her. She also alleged that he forced her to have sex.
An FIR was then registered under section 376 (rape) of the IPC and relevant sections of the POCSO Act.
According to the FIR, it is alleged that the accused befriended a woman after changing his name and raped her on the pretext of marriage by giving her sedatives. The woman has also accused the MLA's wife and daughter of assaulting her.
