Chief Minister Atishi has once again written to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar on Wednesday, seeking urgent appointment with regard to the upcoming legislative assembly elections.
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar on Tuesday dismissed the claims of hacking and tampering electronic voting machines (EVMs), saying there is no scope for such manipulations as the machines are foolproof.
The Election Commission of India will host a press conference today to announce the schedule for the General Election to the Delhi Legislative Assembly.
Kumar, who was addressing a press conference here after the conclusion of the two days visit of the EC to J&K during which it reviewed the preparedness to hold the elections, said “We will not allow any internal or external forces derail the electoral process.”
The Election Commission on Thursday said the overall voter turnout in the Lok Sabha elections was recorded at 65.79 per cent.
After assuming charge as CEC, Kumar said that he was honoured to have been given the responsibility to lead one of the finest institutions gifted by the Indian Constitution - the institution that reinforces India's democracy.
Niti Aayog Vice Chairperson Rajeev Kumar has resigned from his post and will be replaced by economist Suman K. Bery from May 1, an official statement said on Friday.
Other officers of the Commission, including Secretary-General Umesh Sinha, DECs, Directors and Senior Principal Secretaries were also present on the occasion.
During the span of more than 36 years of Government of India service, Kumar has worked in various ministries at the Centre and his state cadre of Bihar/Jharkhand.
A 1984 batch Jharkhand cadre IAS officer, Rajiv Kumar will take charge "with effect from with the date he assumes office vice Ashok Lavasa, Election Commissioner who has resigned with effect from 31st August, 2020," according to a notification by the Ministry of Law and Justice.
