According to the preliminary report by the State Emergency Operation Center, around 238 people lost their lives and 900 people are injured.
The Indian Railways has chosen to rehabilitate 200 stations around the country using engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) and PPP models as part of its efforts to modernise railway facilities.
25 tonne axle load rails have been laid at DFC for the operation of two-storeyed double stack container trains carrying 12,000 tonne load. These tracks are of grade 1080 imported from Japan.
"When the government is allowing flights, BEST and ST buses with restrictions and precautions, then why millions of commuters debarred from the suburban trains, which are the lifeline of Mumbai," Darekar demanded.
Indian Railways had announced that it will run 15 pairs of air-conditioned trains from Tuesday and said that all the passengers will be thermally screened at the station and they will need to arrive at the station 90 minutes prior to the departure of the train.
Its remarks came thrashing some of the media reports which claimed that the operation of the trains will resume from April 15.
However, all the new projects are in the neighbouring state of Odisha. South Eastern Railway, in West Bengal, has not been allocated funds for any new projects in the forthcoming financial year of 2020 to 2021.
The protesters have not been contacted by the Railway Ministry, CCPD court, or the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) which comes under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
The plan was first mooted in 2000 by the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, which recommended right sizing of the apex decision making body of the national transporter.
