Calcutta High Court on Friday allowed the Joint Platform of Doctors to hold a sit-in demonstration at Metro Channel, opposite the Metro Cinema shopping plaza at Esplanade, on the incident of the brutal rape and murder of a young woman doctor at the R G Kar Medical College Hospital, until 26 December.
Calcutta High Court on Thursday sought the response of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on the plea filed earlier in the day, seeking a fresh probe in the ghastly rape and murder of a junior woman doctor of state-run R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata within the hospital premises in August.
The parents have moved the single-judge Bench of Justice Tirthankar Ghosh with their petition in the matter.
Recording of statements of a total of 50 witnesses has been completed at a special Kolkata court during the ongoing trial of the ghastly rape and murder of a junior woman doctor of state-run R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital within the hospital premises in August this year.

West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Forum (WBJDF), the umbrella body of junior doctors protesting against the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-murder case, announced the resumption of complete cease-work throughout the state from Tuesday.
Hardly five days after joining work in state-run medical colleges’ essential emergency services, the junior doctors on Thursday sent yet another email to the state chief secretary, Manoj Pant, reminding him their unresolved demands, discussed during their earlier meeting at state secretariat on 18 September.
The CBI also made a mention of the explosive claim in the remand letter for former principal of R G Kar Medical College & Hospital Sandip Ghosh, and the erstwhile officer in-charge Tala police station Abhijit Mondal. Both were presented at the special court on Wednesday.
The heinous crime in the rape and murder of a doctor of the R.G.Kar Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata, in the late hours of 8 August, has led to widespread protests not only all over West Bengal, but throughout the country, as well as in various other countries.
