This year the sowing was done over 1.25 lakh acres (50,000 hectares), an increase of around 70,000 acres from the previous season.
After a meeting with farmer union leaders, the CM announced a fresh schedule for staggered sowing of paddy to 14 June and 17 June thus restricting the number of total zones as decided earlier from four to just two.
Addressing a gathering during a function organised to distribute compensation to farmers who have lost their crop due to Pink worm attack, the CM said it is unfortunate that food growers get the compensation after a long and troublesome process of assessment of crop loss.
