Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Rajouri Garden Manjinder Singh Sirsa claimed on Tuesday that AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal is dreaming of becoming the chief minister of Punjab. He cited the meeting of Punjab legislators in Delhi to substanciate his claim.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Tuesday took a dig at Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa over his '30 AAP MLAs were in touch with him' remark, saying Mr Bajwa has been making his claims for the past three years. He also asked the Congress leader to count instead how many MLAs his party has in Delhi.
Reiterating the firm commitment of the state government to check crime in the state, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Tuesday said that the police officers will be held accountable for major crimes taking place in the areas under their jurisdiction.
The opposition Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Monday lashed out at Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for allegedly failing to release 62.5 percent of the amount meant for Post Matric Scholarship (PMS) scheme for SC students, even as the party said only Rs 92 crore out of total Rs 245 crore has been released till date.
The CM, while stressing on the need of bringing transparency in the government offices, also directed all the officers and employees to deal with all the grievances of people on a priority basis.
Addressing his first Press conference as the CM, Channi said the investigation in the sensitive Bargari sacrilege case, which took place during the previous Parkash Singh Badal government, will be carried on but there will be no vendetta.
"Governor Punjab Shri Purohit congratulated him and invited him to take oath as the Chief Minister of Punjab on September 20, 2021 at Punjab Raj Bhawan at 11 a.m.," the statement said.
"Congratulations to Shri Charanjit Singh Channi Ji for the new responsibility. We must continue to fulfil the promises made to the people of Punjab. Their trust is of paramount importance," Gandhi tweeted.
The Congress high command is believed to have preferred Channi over other contenders in a bid to woo Dalits who make up an estimated 33 per cent of Punjab's overall population.
