In a detailed statement, the Governor said when then PAU VC's term expired 30 June 2021 and Punjab government sought the approval of the Governor of Punjab, who is Chancellor of PAU, on 1 July 2021 for approving the giving of additional charge to IAS officer Anirudh Tewari as PAU VC.
In a letter to the Governor on Thursday, Bhagwant Mann reiterated that the appointment was carried out according to the Haryana and Punjab Agricultural University Act, 1970, by the PAU’s board. He said the approval of the Governor or the CM was not required for the appointment.
Party’s Punjab spokesman said the authority to appoint the V-C of PAU lies with the Board of Management of the University, and not with the Governor.
