Senior members of the Kendriya Margdarshak Mandal of sants (holy persons) held a two-day conference in Siliguri, during which they passed resolutions emphasising the need for unity among the Hindu community to lawfully resist attacks on temples, idols, Puja pandals, and other holy places.

Accordingly, it has decreed that no one, except designated organisers and priests, will be allowed closer than 10 metres from the boundary of the pandal in the case of large pujas and five metres in the case of smaller ones.
This year initiatives have been taken by various puja organisers in Bengal to make the biggest festival of the region eco-friendly.
"For sightseeing and witnessing Durga Puja, the per head fare for an adult is Rs 1,700 and for children below 12 years it is Rs 1,500," the TRTC official said.
