The incident in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, where a Muslim couple was forced to give up their newly purchased home following protests from neighbours, serves as a sobering reminder of the fragility of communal harmony in India.

In a predominantly residential university, it was imperative for the authorities to ensure accommodation by reopening the hostels. Reports suggest that the students have become restive as they clamour for hostel facilities. For all the emphasis on the fine/performing arts, a backlash by the students was only to be anticipated. And so it came to be. In the wake of the gherao of senior functionaries, administration within the campus has come to a virtual halt.

A tale of two protests

Leaders of the agitation in Ottawa as also on the US-Canada border have been arbitrarily arrested without charge. Indian and Canadian governments handled protests on their soil employing different tactics. India held eleven rounds of talks with protestors seeking a middle path, while Canada refused to discuss demands.

Massive protests across Telangana over PM’s remarks

On a call given by TRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, TRS leaders, including ministers and legislators, led the protests in Assembly constituencies and mandal headquarters. The leaders took strong exception to remarks made by Modi in Rajya Sabha during his reply to debate of motion of thanks for the President's address to the Parliament.
