Some farmers were injured following lathicharge by the police to disperse a group of farmers who were heading towards Karnal to protest against a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) meeting attended by the Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
The DMK government headed by Chief Minister M.K.Stalin had announced that a separate budget for agriculture will be presented by the government earlier.

The Morcha, an umbrella organisation of protesting farm unions, along with the Bharatiya Kisan Morcha, Ganna Kisan Sangharsh Samity (constituents of the SKM) and other farm unions, are campaigning in poll-bound states and appealing to the people, including farmers, students and civil society to not vote for the BJP in the Assembly elections.
The police have strengthened security at the Ghazipur border protest site by setting up barbed wire fences, barricades and spikes on the road and have dug up trenches to stop the farmers from entering the national capital. The measures have been put in place after the tractor rally violence that took place on the Republic Day.
The Delhi Police has registered over 25 FIRs, which include over 30 of the 40 farmer union leaders who were involved in talks with the central government.
The Delhi Police said, “Protesting farmers can enter Delhi but can't disturb the Republic Day parade.” The police said that the tractor rally by the farmers protesting against the farm laws will begin after the parade on Rajpath is concluded.
