A modern and smart power transmission system with features such as real-time monitoring and automated operation of the grid was recommended by a task force set up by the Power Ministry.
In 2020, the power ministry advised states to reduce imports for blending. As a result, imports declined to 8.1 million tonnes in 2021-22, sources have said.
The Ministry has initiated implementation of EWS in hydro power projects, especially those located in upper reaches of hilly regions.

The Central Government has notified these rules with a view to streamlining the process of planning, development and recovery of investment in the transmission system.

India’s leading power company, REC (Rural Electrification Corporation) has entered into an agreement with leading power company Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) South Asia to examine the existing data on DISCOMS’ services to diagnose trends and identify gaps in the quality of power supply, said a senior officer of the Power Ministry.
This year power consumption has registered an increase of 23 %, as a result coal stock position in some plants is critical, said a senior officer of the Power Ministry adding that the government is still making all efforts to meet demand as per the grid requirements.
The initiative is a clarion call to all stakeholders and individuals to continue moving towards energy efficiency, renewable energy, and sustainability.
