India logs 5,676 new Covid case

In a concerning development, the national capital reported 416 fresh Covid cases on Saturday, the highest daily count in over seven months, as per the health bulletin issued by the health department.
According to a bulletin issued by the Delhi Health department, the Capital did not register a single death from Covid over the last 24 hours.
In view of the rise in fresh Covid-19 cases in the national capital over the past few days, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) on Wednesday decided to make wearing masks mandatory in public places in the city and also reinforce the Rs 500 penalty for defying the norm, the sources said.
The positivity rate that had gone up to more than 37 per cent has also reduced to around 23 per cent in the last seven days.
There were no deaths caused by the novel coronavirus. Thirtyfour patients who recovered were discharged by various hospitals during the past 24 hours.
"With the recent trend of sustained and overall decline in Covid-19 cases in the country, we are critically placed in our fight against the pandemic. Eight districts in three states have been reporting more than 10 per cent positivity rates in the past two weeks. As many as 19 districts in seven states and union territories (UTs) have been reporting positivity rates between 5 per cent and 10 per cent in the past two weeks. Thus, these 27 districts need to be monitored closely," Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan wrote in his letter to the states.
There were no deaths caused by the deadly virus. Various hospitals in the city discharged 57 patients who were found to have recovered.
There were no deaths of Covid-19 patients during the past 24 hours and 15 such recovered cases were discharged by various hospitals of the city.
In the same time span, a total of 415 deaths have also been reported across the nation, said the Ministry of Health and Family welfare on Saturday morning.
