The Ministry of Rural Development is implementing the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) since 1st April, 2016 to provide assistance to eligible rural households for the construction of Pucca houses with basic amenities to achieve the objective of "Housing for All" in rural areas.
Two national-level monitors (NLM) empanelled with the ministry are set to visit rural areas of Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts, where they will verify whether the names of eligible people have been included in the PMAY list
The Prime Minister expressed happiness that Uttar Pradesh is among the states that are moving the fastest on building houses for the poor.
The assistance would include the release of the first instalment to 5.30 lakh beneficiaries and second instalment to 80 thousand beneficiaries who have already availed the first instalment of assistance under PMAY-G.
The Prime Minister said that today is not only a memorable moment in the lives of 1.75 lakh poor families, but it is also a major step to give pucca house to every homeless person in the country.
In the state of Madhya Pradesh, 17 lakh poor households have also benefited from this scheme till now.
