Nearly 93 percent of phishing domains are hosted on a "secure" website with a padlock in the URL bar.
The findings also reveal that there is a lack of common understanding about the definition of phishing. For instance, 67 per cent of IT teams in India associate phishing with emails that falsely claim to be from a legitimate organisation, and which are usually combined with a threat or request for information.
Alwar SP Tejaswani Gautam said that police acted on a tip off and caught the accused red-handed as they carried a chat on their phone with the informer.
The Bengaluru Police has reported that out of 20,000 FIRs registered between January 2019 and June 2019, 25% were related to Cyber Crimes.
"While overall phishing volume increased less than one percent quarter over quarter, in terms of overall fraud attacks, phishing decreased sharply due to the exponential growth of attacks from rogue mobile apps," said cybersecurity firm RSA.
According to a recent Wall Street Journal report, Chinese users who had connected their Apple accounts to mobile payment systems Alipay and WeChat Pay suffered from the scam.
