Prices of both auto fuels reduced only once in April by 16 and 14 paisa per litre, respectively. Diesel prices were also reduced by 16 paisa per litre in Delhi on July 12.
Premium petrol price had already crossed the Rs 100 per litre mark in several parts of the country through increase in the retail rates in the month of January and February.
Similarly, diesel prices also were unchanged in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata at Rs 89.49, Rs 92.17, Rs 89.65 and Rs 87.74 per litre, respectively.
Diesel, on the other hand, was at Rs 87.96 in Mumbai, Rs 85.88 in Chennai and Rs 83.75 per litre in Kolkata.
India’s financial capital, Mumbai, also witnessed a sharp rise in fuel prices as petrol was being sold at Rs 92.28 a litre while the diesel was priced as Rs 82.66 per litre.
Rates were hiked on two consecutive days - totalling 49 paise for petrol and 51 paise for diesel - before they hit a pause button again.
The oil marketing companies (OMCs) on Sunday increased the retail price of petrol by 28 paise per to Rs 83.41 a litre in Delhi.
In the national capital, diesel prices fell by 15 paise per litre to Rs 71.28 a litre down from Rs 71.43 per litre on Monday.
In Kolkata, petrol was sold for Rs 83.01, higher by 14 paise from its previous level of Rs 82.87 per litre.
