Peacocks falls under Schedule 1 status of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 (which covers endangered species that need rigorous protection), and an FIR has been registered against unidentified persons.
According to the divisional forest officer (DFO) Varun Kumar Singh, the post-mortem of the first peacock that was found dead on Wednesday, has been done. The cause of death in his report was pneumonia.
