The battle for control over India’s oldest political party is, in that sense, not going to be fought and won from within. The vice-like grip one family has on the organisation will either successfully withstand or accommodate the so-called G-23 rebellion just as it did similar efforts at leadership change on earlier occasions.
Making a controversial statement, Chacko had earlier in the day said that the downfall of the Congress party started in 2013 when Sheila Dikshit was the chief minister.
The exit polls have projected the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party to retain power, the BJP to better its previous record and the Congress to remain a no-gainer with minimum zero and a maximum of two seats.
This comes days after AICC in-charge of Delhi Congress PC Chacko had said that his party and the AAP would come together to defeat the BJP.
As Sheila Dikshit and other leaders met Gandhi on Monday to discuss the possibility of a tie-up, their views remained divided, though they were unanimous that the Congress chief should settle the matter in the larger interest of the party
Dikshit also expressed reservation over the phone survey, being carried out through Shakti app of the party, which was undertaken by PC Chacko, the AICC incharge of Delhi Congress.
