The veteran leader, however, said he would continue to strive for the growth of the organisation, to take the ideology and goals of the party to the people, and to serve the people, as they deem fit.
According to sources, before filing her nomination, Murmu spoke to Sonia Gandhi, Sharad Pawar and Mamata Banerjee besides leaders of several opposition parties and sought their support.
Congress' Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Left leaders D. Raja and Sitaram Yechury attended the meeting.
He mentioned how the NCB had taken a person who is absconding from Pune police as its independent witness in the October 2 raids on a rave party on board the cruise ship in Mumbai port which sparked off a huge political row.
He said that unless the 50 per cent quota limit imposed by the Supreme Court in its 1992 landmark verdict is relaxed, states cannot prepare their own lists of socially and educationally backward classes (SEBCs).
The meeting gained significance as it came on the same day as Pawar's daughter Supriya Sule attended the breakfast meeting of opposition leaders hosted by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
