With NASA launching a historic Parker Solar Probe deeper into the solar atmosphere than any mission before it, the question arises: Why won't it melt?
"The spacecraft is in good health and operating on its own. Parker Solar Probe has begun its mission to 'touch' the Sun," NASA said in a blog post.
Named after physicist Eugene Parker, who published a groundbreaking paper on solar winds in 1958, the probe is expected to be launched on August 11, 2018.
Media invited on 13 July to view the spacecraft that has been designed to touch the sun.
