The PAGD was formed on 4 August 2019, a day before the BJP government abrogated Article 370 and put the regional leaders under house arrest. The long-time foes, NC and PDP, came under one umbrella to fight for the restoration of Article 370 and statehood of J&K.
Civil liberties, freedom of press and freedom of speech are under assault while police stations and jails are being filled with innocent people, said Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami.
The statement came a day after the provincial committee of the NC that met under the chairmanship of the party’s vice-president Omar Abdullah resolved to contest all 90 seats without any alliance with other constituents of the PAGD that was formed to seek the restoration of Article 370.

The People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) spokesperson Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said the killing of Kashmiri Pandit government employee Rahul Bhat in Budgam has shaken the confidence of the Kashmiri society.
Bodies of two of the killed were exhumed after protests by the families claiming that three of the four killed were civilians.
He said that the hurry in which the delimitation exercise was being conducted on the basis of an old census raises doubts on the intentions of BJP.
The PAGD leaders, who met at the Srinagar residence of Dr Farooq Abdullah, also asked the government to “stop humiliating” people in J&K as the trend might have “dangerous consequences,” said the Alliance’s spokesman Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami while briefing media persons after the meeting.
The PAGD spokesman and CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said that “the CBMs would have initiated the much-needed process of reaching out to the people of J&K who are the biggest stakeholders and sufferers of the J-K problem.”
