Senior Congress leader and former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram said that never before in its history has Maharashtra performed so badly on all fronts, as he attacked the BJP-Mahayuti here on Saturday.
Speaking about major themes, he said unemployment is the biggest challenge. The Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMEI) estimated the all India unemployment rate in June 2024 at 9.2 per cent. It may have come down, but a wrong picture has been projected.
The new criminal laws implemented today were forcefully passed in Parliament by suspending 146 Opposition MPs, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge said.

Chidambaram is currently under judicial custody in Tihar jail in the INX Media case.
The Congress leader also thanked his followers for their support and said he was "amazed by the capacity of the poor to distinguish between justice and injustice."
Investigating agencies, ED and CBI have sought adjournment, asking the matter to be listed for first week of October.
Accepting the CBI's argument that he should be sent to judicial custody, the CBI court said that Chidambaram will remain in judicial custody till September 19 even as the 74-year-old leader has already spent 15 days in CBI custody after he was arrested by the CBI on the night of 21 August.
