In a post on X, Chidambaram said, "All eyes will be on the US aircraft which will land today in Amritsar bringing back illegal immigrants. Will the deportees be handcuffed and their legs tied with ropes? It is a test for Indian diplomacy."

Chidambaram is under probe by CBI and ED over alleged irregularities in the FIPB clearance granted to INX Media for receiving overseas funds of Rs 305 crore in 2007 during his tenure as Finance Minister.
Chidambaram is currently under judicial custody in Tihar jail in the INX Media case.
The Congress leader also thanked his followers for their support and said he was "amazed by the capacity of the poor to distinguish between justice and injustice."
