Two days after the tragic stampede at New Delhi Railway Station in which 18 people lost their lives and over a dozen were injured, the Railway Ministry, on Monday, rolled out a series of safety measures aimed at preventing overcrowding at all the stations across India and also to ensure smoother passenger flow.
“To ease overcrowding on New Year's Eve (31st December 2021), exit from Rajiv Chowk metro station will not be allowed from 9 PM onwards. However, entry of passengers will be allowed till the departure of the last train," DMRC shared on Twitter.
Not only physical distancing, but even masks were not apparent as a large number of commuters flouted the norms. Taking a tough stand, the Eastern Railway fined 500 commuters in the two days of resumption of local train services.
Currently, the 87 jails in the State have the full capacity to house 19,824 prisoners. However, a large number of prisons in Odisha are experiencing beyond 20% overcrowding and a substantial number beyond 50% of overcrowding.
