Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has set a heartfelt example as he fulfilled his promise made years ago and participated in the wedding rituals of Late CRPF jawan Hemraj Meena and Veerangana Madhubala in Sangod/Kota on Friday.
Addressing the Indian students at Samarkand Medical University in Uzbekistan, the Lok Sabha Speaker elaborated that the rapid growth in medical research and education in India has created numerous opportunities for the students to work in academic and research institutions.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Sunday said India’s parliamentary committees function as mini parliaments as these committees review policies and programs related to social security, social justice, economic empowerment, and public welfare and provide suggestions for their better execution.
A major ruckus ensued in the Lok Sabha as Samajwadi Party leaders raised slogans and placards, forcing Speaker Om Birla to adjourn the House till 2 pm.
Three-time lawmaker and NDA candidate Birla was elected Speaker of the 18th Lok Sabha. He is the second presiding officer to return to the chair who has served a full term after Congress' Balram Jakhar.
Addressing the House, Speaker Birla expressed his gratitude to more than 64 crore voters, who participated in the Lok Sabha elections, and to the people of the country.
The Congress leader asserted that the question is not how efficiently the House is run but how much of India's voice is being allowed to be heard in this House.
The Opposition had proposed the name of Mr K Suresh of the Congress Party, but Mr Birla was declared elected by a voice vote.
"The government compelled the INDIA Alliance to contest the election. We don't want to contest the election against the Speaker, but when the government approached INDIA Alliance, especially the Congress party leadership, we asked about the Deputy Speaker post.
