To negate any adverse impact of cyclone Dana on the coastal region of West Bengal, including Kolkata, NSCBI Airport authorities have announced the suspension of flight operations at Kolkata airport.
Special alerts have been issued at Kolkata Airport since last night till today after Netaji Subhas Chandra International Airport (NSCBI) authorities received a threat of a hydrogen bomb attack on Sunday night.
Kolkata-Bangladesh flight services are gradually returning to normal, a NSCBI airport sources said today.
NSCBI Airport authorities decided to halt Dhaka-Kolkata air services after receiving a message around 4.46 p.m. that Dhaka Aerodrome is closed till time 10.30 hrs IST.
The domestic air travel though has been placed under restrictions, the airport lately witnessed increase in international flights mainly from Middle East.
The AAI claimed that this is a testament to the fact that more and more people trust air travel when it comes to safety and security.
The NSCBI spokesperson confirmed that the airport handled 415 flights in arrival and 419 departure flights in the last 10 days.
The Kolkata airport officials are also taking isolation measures, as per a directive issued today by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
