The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the constitutional validity of Section 6A of the Citizenship Act, 1955, which was inserted to give effect to the Assam Accord and formed the basis of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam in 2019.

Claiming that sending people to detention camps under the garb of NRC is a matter of utter shame, she said the people should take all possible precautions on their part to avoid harassment on this count.
Asaduddin Owaisi said, "It is already happening that you first give the long-term VISA and then they (minority community of Afghanistan) get citizenship."
