Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh expressed strong support for the resolutions passed at the Thadou Convention, which endorsed both the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the state’s ongoing 'War on Drugs' initiative.
The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the constitutional validity of Section 6A of the Citizenship Act, 1955, which was inserted to give effect to the Assam Accord and formed the basis of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam in 2019.
Assam, a state rich in history and culture, is no stranger to civil unrest and protests rooted in deep-seated issues of identity, governance, and development.
He said a Trinamul Congress worker died today while putting up a party flag of sun stroke.
The West Bengal chief minister rallied her supporters with a call for action, urging them to unite under the TMC banner to oust the BJP from power.
He also claimed that Trinamul Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee had a secret understanding with the BJP and she wouldn't be able to fight it.
Speaking at an anti-CAA, anti-NPR rally at Ranaghat in Nadia, Miss Banerjee said, "Politics of divide and rule would do no good to the country, which is currently facing an economic slowdown."
In his first reaction after the amendment to the Citizenship Act and nationwide protests against it, the south Indian actor wondered how Muslims who chose to stay back in India following Partition can be sent out of the country.
“The BJP is scared over the overwhelming response of the common people across the country as peaceful agitation against the CAA-NPR was getting bigger and bigger and assumed alarming proportions. Out of fear, the leaders of the BJP, including the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and a union minister are trying to spread hatred and create polarisation on religious lines by asking people to open fire,” Ms Banerjee said at Nabanna today.
The clarification is seen as an effort by the BJP government at the Centre to defuse anger and protests over the NRC and the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) that has erupted over the past two months.
