North Korea's Defence Minister has reaffirmed "invincible" friendship with Russia during a banquet celebrating Russia's Defender of the Fatherland Day, hosted by the Russian Embassy in Pyongyang, state media reported Friday.
North Korea on Thursday expressed outrage over the move by the United States to bolster another nuclear alliance in the Asia-Pacific region.
Following the talks between the United States and Russia on ending the war in Ukraine, President Donald Trump expressed his belief that Russia wants to put an end to the conflict, citing the toll the war has taken on soldiers, including Ukrainians, Russians, as well as North Koreans.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has accused the US of standing behind the world's disputes, reaffirming the country's policy to further develop its nuclear forces, the North's state media reported on Sunday.
The North hailed its new missiles as a “strategic weapon of great significance”, implying that they were being developed with an intent to arm them with nuclear warheads.
As per the decision, the country will not receive any monetary assistance, accrued towards it from the past that was held back because of international sanctions
Last September, North Korean troops shot and killed a South Korean government official who was found on a makeshift raft drifting near the sea boundary between the countries.
“I continue to stand ready to meet with my North Korean counterpart at anywhere and at any time,” senior South Korean diplomat Kim said.
North Korea's angry reaction to the drills further diminishes South Korean hopes for improving bilateral ties, which rose after the North agreed to reopen long-stalled communication channels with the South in late July.
