Nishad Party chief and Uttar Pradesh minister Sanjay Nishad has reiterated his party’s demand for a caste survey in UP and said that he hoped that “elder brother” BJP would ensure that his party got “respectable number of seats” as part of the seat-sharing agreement in 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
The BJP in Uttar Pradesh has already lost one ally, the Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party (SBSP), that has now joined hands with the Samajwadi Party.
Om Prakash Rajbhar, SBSP president, and VIP president Mukesh Sahani held a meeting in Lucknow over the weekend and sources said, that the two leaders agreed, in principle, to join hands for the upcoming UP assembly elections.
"The Nishad Party has an influence on 160 Assembly seats. I have spoken to the BJP leaders and told them that we would like to contest 70 seats. In the 2022 elections, the government will be formed by that party which agrees to the demands of the Nishad party," he said.
Political parties in the state are keen to revive the legacy of Phoolan Devi and win over the Nishad community to which she belonged.
Sanjay Nishad said that he will be on a month-long visit to Ayodhya to mobilise his cadres for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections due next year, and reach out to the Nishad community to seek its support for the party.
