The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), one of the largest financial inclusion initiatives launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, completed a decade of successful implementation on Wednesday.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Tuesday that a total of 53.13 crore Jan Dhan accounts for the poor have been opened in the last 10 years with deposits worth Rs 2.3 lakh crore.
The second India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR) was held in Singapore on Monday.
She was addressing an event organized by Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) at Sukher Industrial Area in Udaipur.
In her recent budget statement, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman lauded the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 (IBC), celebrating it as a new-age miracle. With over 1,000 companies resolved and a whopping Rs. 3.3 trillion recovered, it seems the IBC is finally hitting its stride – or at least that is the optimistic narrative.
"We want banks to meet the aspirations of the country,” she said.
Earlier in the day, the stock touched the mark of Rs 123.5, after it rose 19.03 per cent.
"We need capacities to be ramped up, we need expansion, we need more production of very many such products, which are so required for the economy," she said.
She said a challenging situation like the pandemic didn't deter the government from taking up reforms that are going to be necessary for sustaining long term growth for the country to boost the economy.
Chidambaram said that there was no mention of the defence sector in the Budget either, and the numbers predicted therein were not correct.
