The finance minister was speaking at the inauguration of the first PG Certificate Course on International Commercial & Investment Treaty Arbitration in New Delhi.
Coming out as a response to the opposition claims that the Budget favoured Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled states, especially poll-bound Bihar, she said no state had been neglected under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.
Parliament was adjourned on Thursday and will reconvene on March 10, in the second and final half of the Budget session.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Thursday introduced the Income Tax Bill 2025 in the Lok Sabha.
"In the case of demand notices issued for 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20, interest and penalty will be waived off, if tax is paid by March 31, 2025," Nirmala Sitharaman said.
Another key announcement that the minister made is that now hostels which are for students but are not in educational institutions are also getting exempted.
Nirmala also chaired the first pre-Budget consultations with leading economists on June 19.
The meeting set the stage for the upcoming full budget formulation, bringing together top economic minds to provide valuable insights and recommendations.
Ahead of their meeting with the Finance Minister, industry associations will meet Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra on June 18.
