Benchmark indices closed with little change on Thursday in yet another volatile session, with the Nifty at 23,750 led by auto, pharma, energy stocks. At close, the Sensex was down 0.39 points at 78,472.48, and the Nifty was up 22.55 points or at 23,750.20.
The Nifty 50 closed 0.11% lower, settling at 23,727, while the Sensex ended with a minor 0.09% drop at 78,472.
After witnessing a decline of about 5 per cent over the previous five consecutive trading sessions, the domestic benchmark indices closed in green on Monday amid strong global cues.
At close, the Sensex was up 498.58 points or 0.64% at 78,540.17, and the Nifty was up 165.95 points or 0.70% at 23,753.45.
Riding on resilient economic growth, the domestic stock markets are ending 2024 on a positive note, with Nifty registering a 13 per cent gain (year-to-date) -- its ninth consecutive year of positive gains, a Motilal Oswal Wealth Management report said on Saturday.
The Sensex opened at 60,158.76 points from its previous close of 59,885.36 points.
S&P BSE Sensex traded at 59,511.43 points, higher by 370.27 points or 0.63 per cent from its previous close. NSE Nifty50 traded higher. It rose to 17,727.70 points, higher by 98.20 points or 0.56 per cent from its previous close
The top gainers on the Sensex were Tata Steel, Bharti Airtel and Larsen & Toubro, while the only losers were Tech Mahindra and Nestle India
